Ankle Pain

Ankle pain is extremely common. Injuries can be sudden or acute OR develop over time often referred to as a chronic overuse injury which is seen more commonly by our Podiatrists.

The most common acute injury is a twist of the foot to the outside whilst playing sport or walking on uneven surfaces. This can result in severe pain and swelling. The Ankle is a complicated structure and severe sprains can damage ligaments , tendons or even fracture bones.

Swelling and pain around the ankle needs to be managed in the initial recovery after injury so your Podiatrist is able to assess the ankle adequately , deciding if any xrays or diagnostic tests are required Good early management will assist in the longer term rehabilitation and recovery of your ankle injury.

Symptoms in the ankle may sometimes be vague aching and your Podiatrist will assess to determine the cause of your ankle pain. Ankle pain treatment depends on what is causing the ankle pain. The tendon , ligament and joint structures need to be evaluated.
